We have made PowerToolbar build 2.0.163 available for download at http://www.icetips.com/downloadfile.php?FileID=190 For detailed information about changes in this build, please see the version history in the on-line documentation.

You need to have a valid Gold subscription or a valid PowerToolbar Solo subscription and be logged into your Icetips account to be able to download the new install. To purchase a Gold Subscription please go to http://www.icetips.com/subscribe-gold.php and to renew, please go to http://www.icetips.com/renewsubscription.php

The main update in this build is support for menu theming in Clarion 8. Clarion 7 changed the way Clarion constructs the menus which completely broke the menu theming in PowerToolbar. Fixing this was a major undertaking which among other things required us to re-construct the standard Windows menu since Clarion creates it dynamically so PowerToolbar does not have access to the Window menu item information at runtime. This has been in testing for several months and everything appears to work.

Another change is that now there is an option on the Advanced tab to delay the initialization of the PowerToolbar class. This was required in Clarion 7/8 to fix a problem where both Clarion and PowerToolbar drew the menu bar, resulting in two menu bars being drawn! If you check the "Delay Initialization" the initialization is moved to the OpenWindow event handler. Note that this CAN cause GPFs IF you have embedded code accessing the PowerToolbar class that executes before the PowerToolbar Init method.

While not directly related to PowerToolbar, the PowerToolbar on-line help now has an option for you to like and comment on each topic using a Facebook plug-in. This allows you and other users to comment on each topic if you have questions or tips! I will be adding this option to the documentation for our other tools as well in upcoming releases and probably on Icetips pages in general, particularly the article pages.

I have posted a new video on Youtube. This video, that is over 20 minutes long, demonstrates how to create simple source projects in Clarion 8 and Clarion 6. It shows how to create timer loops and how to use the Progress Class with timer loops. It goes into improving performance by reducing screen updates during the process.

So far we have had over 350 total views of the videos that we have posted and we are very happy with how well they have been received! Please let me know if you have any ideas for new tutorial videos. Enjoy!

After I posted the last video I realized that they were not being posted as full HD as I had anticipated. So I have made some changes and uploaded a full HD version of the video.

It is exactly the same as the first one, the only difference is that it's full HD resolution (1920x1080). Make sure that you set the video player to use 1080HD (click the little gearwheel in the bottom control bar in the player) Enjoy:)

I have made a new video available on Youtube. This video is about 15 minutes and covers how to use the Progress Class from the Icetips Utilities. Here are some examples on how to use the progress class that you may want to review along with the video.

There will be another video about the Progress Class to show how you can use timer loops to get rid of the tight loops and make the process easier to control.

So far we have had 98 views of the video that we posted yesterday which is better than I dared to hope - thank you all so much:) I hope you appreciate this video as well and please let me know if you have ideas for tutorials for me to do!

I apologize for the very long time without blog posts and a very quiet first quarter of 2012 from Icetips! No, it hasn't exactly been quiet time for us;)

After CIDC 2011 I spent quite a bit of time working on product updates that were subsequently sent out to beta testers. My goal was to start releasing new updates and couple of new products in mid to late January and was trying to get as much done as I could before I started pushing things out.

Well, that didn't quite work out as planned. Around the middle of January my main development computer started flaking out. At first it looked like the main drive was going bad, so I got a new drive. That looked like working until the day after I got it done, I could no longer boot the computer. At that point I couldn't get into the BIOS setup so I suspected the motherboard was dead. Decided to get a new motherboard and CPU for it. Got that set up and got Windows 7 installed on the new drive. Everything looked good. Installed the NVIDIA graphic card that I bought last summer and everything seemed to work fine, until about 10 minutes after Windows 7 booted, the monitors went blank and the computer turned off couple of minutes later. I replaced the video card and I finally had a working machine again

Sue and I send you all our best wishes for Merry Christmas and Happy
Holidays this season:) May we all enjoy a prosperous New Year in 2012:)

The office will be closed Thursday and Friday, December 22-23 and we will be back on Monday, December 26. I will be checking my email from time to time until the weekend, but support will be slower. I will not be checking my email over the weekend, December 24 and 25.

Thank you all for your business and support in 2011! I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be a very exciting year for all of us!

Silverlight Show is doing two webinars this month.

The first one is November 9th about Networking with Sockets in Windows Phone. The second one is on November 29th about introduction to XAML development on Windows 8.

If you are into Silverlight development, those webinars might be interesting to you:) I haven't done anything with Silverlight yet, but I've been thinking about getting my toes wet - or fingers burned - depending on how it works out.
