Par2: MS SQL Computed Fields
2003-03-10 -- Vernon Jay Godwin

> I have three calculated fields on a MSSQL backend. > In Clarion DCT they are all read only, my problem is that when I try to > insert a new record I get an 'Error 'ColumnName' cannot be modified because > it is a computed column.(37000).' > I removed the fields from the browse, remove the read only attrib but same > error. > Im using C5.5 and the update is using EIP. In your dictionary you need all the fields declared that you expect to have in the browse. However, you need to make one additional change to the dictionary. On those fields that are computed by the backend, you need to add the |READONLY switch. You do this by going to the field in question and changing the "external name" value. If there is no external value you will need to make it match the column's name. For example, lets say the column is CalcTotal. The external name should be CalcTotal|READONLY. This should resolve your problem.
