Par2: Color palettes
1998-05-05 -- Geir Hansen

If you run Windows in 256 color mode, you can only show 256 total colors simultaneously. If you make a 256 color image, there will be no more than 256 colors in each image, but you do not know which. If you show two images at the same time, you may actually need to show more colors. Windows cannot handle this and colors in one or both images will be wrong. Therefore, make sure that the sum of colors used does not exceed 256, if your user is running in 256 mode. Note, other apps can use up colors and effect your app (if not maximized).
