Windows Operating Systems: Performance tricks 2004-03-04 -- Peter Kirk Newsgroups: softvelocity.public.clarion6
I've been using XP Pro for over 12 months. Sadly performance is way off
key, but it can be tweaked.
Problems with GPF:
1) Make sure you have installed XP SP1 service pack and latest patches
2) Try deleting all files in the C:\Clarion6\obj32\ and
C:\Clarion6\obj32\Release\ folders
3) Try compling in local mode. (This can eliminate pathing and other dll
conflicts)
4) If you have any 3rd Party templates, download the latest upgrades..
To improve local response:
1) Disable Prefetch (in registry).
2) Make sure there are no broken shortcuts on your desktop
3) Make sure that you have not disabled short file name tracking. (it is
enabled by default, but some third party performance products turn it off)
To improve network response:
1) Check MTU settings using DOS Command:
PING YourServerName -F -L Blocksize
where blocksize ranges from 400 to 1500
Adjust the blocksize up or down until you no longer get defragmented
message. Optimum size is from 2-32 bytes below defragmentation. Download a
program called DrTCP to adjust MTU for your NIC in registry. (Note: MTU
settings can be adjusted independently for NIC and Dial-up.)
